 i   Abantu is a word in many manifestations of African languages that translates in English to ‘people’.  Abantu is an NGO that concerns itself with helping people in developing countries help themselves change the economic, social, and environmental realities they face.

We are working in the following sectors:
- agriculture
- construction & housing
- art & culture
- education & training
- disability programs
- micro-enterprise
- solar power
- street youth/orphans programs
- community based tourism
- women’s programs

Projects are undertaken only after consultation and group planning with the community stakeholders.  The community itself identifies projects, plans their outcomes and the implementation strategy. Abantu assists in any way we can short of completing the project ourselves.  Our assistance usually comes in the form of
advice, training, fundraising, assessments/evaluations, and project management of technical issues - when required.

Abantu works with the grass roots level of the community so that the most vulnerable directly receive the benefits they require.  Liaison with various levels of local government as well as the international development community are also key operating requirements.
